Current CAFP Advocacy
CAFP engages in a significant amount of advocacy work specifically in Colorado state regulations and with the Colorado State Legislature. The Colorado legislative session runs from January to May of each year. Regulatory advocacy happens year-round.
This year, we’re focusing on two policies we’ve dubbed Your Health, Your Career
To support Your Health, CAFP is leading the charge to eliminate stigmatizing behavioral health questions on Colorado’s medical licensure application so that no physician hesitates to seek help if they need it.
This year, we’re focusing on two policies we’ve dubbed Your Health, Your Career
To support Your Career, CAFP is working with a coalition of organizations on 2025 legislation to prohibit noncompete provisions in contracts. These provisions unnecessarily keep physicians stuck in jobs they no longer want or that no longer fit their life circumstances. Allowing physicians to seek fulfilling jobs is a win for wellbeing and a win for patients.
Ensure primary care physicians and their patients see adequate investment in order to promote whole person care.
CAFP is focused on increasing primary care investment in the following ways:
- Support the legislative renewal of Colorado’s Primary Care Payment Reform Collaborative.
- Support budgetary investments in Colorado’s family medicine residency programs, public health infrastructure, and community-based primary care settings.
- Continue engagement and influence on the design and implementation of aligned alternative payment models in Medicaid and the commercial market.
Alleviate administrative burdens for patients and providers
Through legislative and regulatory activities, CAFP advocates to reduce unnecessary delays in care, streamline processes, and eliminate waste in the healthcare system.
Additional opportunities to engage in the legislative work of the CAFP include serving as Doctor of the Day, giving to the CAFP’s Political Committee, joining CAFP’s Advocacy Insiders group, joining the Legislative Committee, and joining the Board of Directors.
