About CAFP

The Colorado Academy of Family Physicians is the only organization dedicated solely to family physicians in the state of Colorado. Our academy was founded in 1948 and currently represents over 2,700 practicing and retired family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students. We support Colorado’s family physicians and patients by providing state-level advocacy, offering affordable and relevant education through our Annual Summit and other events, and championing health of the public initiatives that help all Coloradans live healthier lives.

Our mission is to serve as the bold champion for Colorado’s family physicians, patients and communities, through education and advocacy.

Our vision is thriving Family Physicians creating a healthier Colorado.

Our values are focused on achieving equal access to healthcare and equitable health outcomes, and dismantling the structures, systems, and biases that prevent both.

Why Join

Your AAFP membership brings you many benefits at the national level, and your CAFP membership brings those benefits on a state level.

Advocacy

At the State Capitol

The CAFP lobbies full time at the State Capitol during the legislative session, representing the pressing concerns our physicians face. Members are invited to participate in the Doctor of the Day program, where you will get an opportunity to care for legislators and their staff and see firsthand our impact as Family Physicians. We also partner with organization like the Colorado Medical Society and the Colorado Association of Family Medicine Residencies to amplify your voice.

In the Private Sector

The CAFP recognizes the ongoing business concerns our physicians face. We represent your voice at the table with payers, health systems, and employers on vital issues like payment reform.

In the Public Sector

There are numerous state and national agencies working to better healthcare for physicians and patients. The CAFP is your voice to those agencies, making sure public initiatives are in the best interest of Family Physicians and your patients.

Each year, the CAFP hosts our Annual Summit (formerly the Annual Scientific Conference). This four-day event is an opportunity for Family Physicians to earn CME, network with colleagues, and enjoy a getaway in a family friendly setting. Select events are also available as webinars so members can join in from their practice, from home, or while traveling.

Members receive a free subscription to Colorado Family Physician, the CAFP’s quarterly magazine, and our weekly e-newsletter. Both publications will keep you up-to-date on educational topics, leadership opportunities, issues effecting your practice, and events for Family Physicians.
