Leadership Opportunities for Students & Residents

Colorado Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors

Student and resident leadership is a vital part of the CAFP Board of Directors, and both students and residents are invited to sit on the board. A call for nominations is sent out in late fall, and new student and resident board members are elected each year.

Students and residents may nominate themselves, or they may be nominated by a fellow student or resident, faculty member, or family physician. Nominations are due by December 1 of each year.

Delegates and Alternate Delegates at the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students

During National Conference the resident and student congress is held. This session gives students and residents the ability to debate and vote on important issues and concerns facing family medicine today. Anyone can attend the student and resident congress, but only AAFP members can speak and vote on resolutions, and only delegates and alternate delegates can vote in elections.

The CAFP sends two students and two residents to National Conference each year to serve as delegates and alternate delegates. This is an excellent opportunity to explore leadership within the AAFP and CAFP, and take an active role in bettering the practice of Family Medicine.

A call for students and residents interested in serving as a delegate or alternate delegate is sent out in early spring each year.

Awards

Each year the CAFP names a Resident of the Year. This award recognizes a family medicine resident for outstanding contributions to patients and family medicine. Winners are named in the spring and recognized at the CAFP Annual Summit in April.

A call for nominations is sent out in late fall. The deadline for nominations is December 1.
