Earlier this year, our facility took a significant step forward in enhancing our pediatric mental health services by hiring an in-house psychiatrist. This addition has provided us with the unprecedented ability to offer consistent and comprehensive care to our young patients, ensuring they receive the attention and support they need. However, this milestone in our journey would not have been possible without the invaluable support we received from the Colorado Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation & Access Program (CoPPCAP).

Before we had the luxury of an in-house psychiatrist, CoPPCAP was our lifeline. Throughout 2023, we relied on CoPPCAP multiple times to bridge the gap in care for our pediatric patients facing complex mental health issues. The program offered indispensable support to our primary care physicians and pediatricians, equipping them with the expertise and guidance necessary to manage intricate cases effectively. CoPPCAP’s role in providing consultation and access to specialized psychiatric care ensured that no child was left without the help they desperately needed.

CoPPCAP has been an excellent resource. The ability to consult with experts and receive timely advice has empowered our medical staff, enhancing their confidence and competence in addressing mental health concerns. This collaboration has not only improved patient outcomes but also reinforced the importance of integrated care in our practice.

As we move forward with our expanded capabilities, we must not overlook the critical role that CoPPCAP has played in our success. The support and resources provided by this program have been instrumental in building a robust foundation for pediatric mental health care in our community. It is our sincere hope that CoPPCAP continues to receive the support and recognition it deserves, ensuring that it remains available to assist other healthcare providers facing similar challenges.

The continued existence and support of CoPPCAP are crucial for sustaining the progress we have made in our rural community and for addressing the ongoing mental health needs of our community’s children.
