In the evolving post-covid era, more family physicians are traveling on aircraft. This presentation is a timely topic. It provides a useful review of medical emergencies that can occur in flight, and considerations like relevant Good Samaritan legislation.
This presentation contains a review of common in flight medical emergencies, medical resources on board an aircraft, common medical conditions on flights and a review of legal implications for medical volunteers on flights.
Speaker Bio: Dr. Katherine Walker is a Family Medicine physician with over 20 years of clinical experience. She is an Adjunct Faculty at the St. Anthony Family Medicine Residency in Westminster, Colorado. She also works part-time at a medical practice called Nextera/North Vista in their Longmont and Boulder locations.
Dr. Walker’s passions include medical mission work abroad. She has been a guest speaker at the AAFP Global Heath Summit national conference on three separate occasions. She is currently working on a project called MissionCMEcuador. This organization was featured in the 2021 CAFP Fall Magazine. This program involves having primary care medical providers work in underserved clinics of Ecuador while obtaining continuing medical education credits.
