Stakeholder Opportunity: Become a CO Essential Community Provider
Join the effort to enhance healthcare access in Colorado by becoming an Essential Community Provider (ECP). The Colorado Department of Insurance has simplified the process, allowing more providers to represent communities in need. Here’s why it matters and how you can get involved:
Why It Matters:
Network adequacy standards are increasingly critical. Being on the ECP list strengthens your practice’s standing with insurers offering private insurance, OmniSalud, or state-governed coverage. This designation also increases the number of clinics health plans must contract with to meet network adequacy requirements. For instance, if there are only two clinics in a service area, plans need to contract with one. However, with ten clinics listed, they must include at least three, amplifying access for underserved populations.
How to Participate:
Consider becoming an Essential Community Provider by completing the form available here. Your practice must serve at least 25% of patients at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Nonprofit status is not required. This small step benefits not only your practice but also Colorado’s broader underserved communities.
Already on the List?
If your practice is listed below, no action is needed:
- Community Health Services
- Denver Indian Health and Family Services
- Doctors Care
- Kids in Need of Dentistry
By joining this initiative, you’ll play a crucial role in strengthening access to healthcare for Colorado’s communities in need.
