A Big Week Ahead for CAFP’s Advocacy Agenda
HB25-1176 Reducing Stigma in Medical Licensure
Our bill to modernize Colorado’s medical licensure process by removing outdated behavioral health questions has passed the House and is now scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Health & Human Services Committee on April 3 at 1:30 PM. This reform aligns Colorado with national standards and reduces stigma so providers can seek mental health care without fear of professional repercussions. Stay tuned for how you can support this important legislation!
SB25-083 Limiting Restrictive Employment Agreements
Our legislation to limit non-compete agreements for physicians has passed the Senate and is now in the House Business Affairs & Labor Committee, with a hearing also set for April 3. CAFP will be in touch to engage members in this critical next step of the legislative process!
Continuing Medical Educations (CME) Rulemaking
Earlier this week, CAFP joined the Colorado Medical Society and other partners to support DORA’s draft rule on physician CME (Reg. 1.33). The rule keeps the 30-hour CME requirement per cycle (including 2 hours on opioids, per statute) and avoids burdensome new topic mandates. Our coalition offered technical edits to improve clarity and reduce redundancy while ensuring recognition of established CME accreditors.
Milestone for Family Medicine on Match Day 2025
This year’s Match brought a major milestone for family medicine, with a record number of slots offered by programs filled. 85% of these were filled on Match Day, while the official SOAP results will be available in a few weeks. It’s a strong signal of the growing interest in primary care and the vital role family physicians play in our health system. The United States is projected to need 48,000 more primary care physicians by 2034. Read more from the AAFP.
